Welcome to the website of Alexandra Popoff, author of three literary biographies, SOPHIA TOLSTOY, THE WIVES, and TOLSTOY’S FALSE DISCIPLE: THE UNTOLD STORY OF LEO TOLSTOY AND VLADIMIR CHERTKOV.
I began my career as a journalist working in Moscow. As 1991 Alfred Friendly Press Fellow, I wrote for The Philadelphia Inquirer and its Sunday magazine. After immigrating to Canada in 1992, I taught Russian literature and history at the University of Saskatchewan before turning to literary biography. I have contributed to Huffington Post, The Boston Globe, The Globe and Mail, and National Post.
My expertise is in world literature: I was educated in Moscow Literary Institute, the University of Toronto, and the University of Saskatchewan where I studied English literature by women.
